KNITTING CROCHET SEWING QUILTING BASIC BEGINNING HAND KNITTING (c) This course is for those who have never knitted before. Learn to cast on, knit, purl, do ribbing, cast off and decipher the abbreviations and devices of hand knitting patterns, and more! We will knit traditional muffler-type neck scarves and a lacey triangular scarf in garter stitch. You may work on a child’s sweater as a first project in order to learn to read patterns. Class taught by an experienced knitter. There will be a materials fee of $15 payable to the instructor at the first class.
ADVANCED BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE HAND KNITTING (c) We’ll learn increases and decreases and work on new stitches and stitch patterns, and two-color knitting. We will continue with a child’s sweater, in order to learn finishing techniques. Bring that project that needs a jump-start. Please bring patterns rated from skill level easy to intermediate and the required yarn and knitting needles to the first class.
BASIC BEGINNING CROCHET (c) Learn to crochet and make coasters, hats, scarves and more! In this class we will cover the basic five stitches in crochet and how to read crochet patterns and symbols. Class taught by award-winning crocheter. Left-handed students welcome. There will be a materials fee of $12 payable to the instructor at the first class.
ADVANCED BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE CROCHET (c) We will work on projects of the student’s choice, further your knowledge of crochet pattern stitches, such as the popcorn, cluster and puff stitches, the ripple stitch, the afghan stitch and more. Bring pattern of your choice, rated from easy to intermediate skill level and the required yarn and hook for this project, to the first class.
Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Learn to sew. Basic techniques of clothing construction, sewing for the home, and creating unique gifts. Learn about fabric and pattern selection, pattern layout, construction methods, plus how to understand and use (or choose) your sewing machine. Factory sewing tips included. These are skills that will last a lifetime. ESL students welcome.
FEATHERED STAR – INTERMEDIATE QUILTING (a) Students will learn how to sew a 56” Feathered Star. The completed star can be used as the center for a medallion quilt, octagon table cover or a tree skirt. All of these applications will be covered in class. Previous quilting experience a must!
