BASIC BEGINNING SEWING (a)

Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Learn basic sewing skills including how to use your machine, basic hand stitching, read a pattern, identify and select fabric for making a simple garment, tote bag or pillow. Learn how to thread the machine, wind the bobbin, adjust tension, change needles and troubleshoot. Learn about seam allowances, grain lines, pattern layout, pinning, darts, seam finishing, sewing notions and ironing. Discover a whole realm of creativity and satisfaction in making your own clothing and accessories. No experience necessary.

CREATIVE MENDING AND ALTERING (a)

Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Some sewing experience recommended. Want to fix that favorite dress that never fit quite right? Or shorten pants or shirts? Come learn creative, attractive mending and altering techniques such as patching holes, altering waistlines, changing necklines or hems, replacing zippers and more. Learn more hand and machine sewing skills, how to use various notions such as interfacing, hem guage, seam ripper. Bring a garment to alter or repair. Some sewing experience recommended.

Enrollment is limited to 10 students. Previous basic experience required. Prerequisite: Beginning Sewing class or equivalent. Bring your unfinished projects, mending or alterations, your machine and a sewing machine or completion of basic course. Learn to make darts, buttonholes, pockets, zippers, and plackets. Making and using bias binding binding. This class will emphasize quick & simple methods.

SEWING WORKSHOP (a)

Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Prerequisite: Beginning Sewing class or equivalent. Bring your unfinished projects, mending or alterations, your machine and a sewing kit (classroom machines are also available). Spend a couple of evenings sewing along with an instructor and other sewers. The teacher will answer questions and guide you toward completion of your projects.
