Aerobics (a/c)

This program is designed to improve the efficiency of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system, as well as strengthen and tone the muscles and joints of the body. It is a three-part program that includes warm-ups, cardiovascular training, and a cool down. Exercises emphasize smooth, continuous and rhythmical movements. The 60-minute aerobic workout will leave you energized yet relaxed, and you will have FUN. Please bring an exercise mat. These classes are for adults of all ages.

PILATES /stretch beginning (c)

Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Students in this beginning mat class will be introduced deep breathing, correct form and level-one exercise. Pilates is a non-impact exercise form that can be a springboard for further activity. The class begins with a warm up, progresses through the basic series and ends with stretching. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a foam roller.

DANCERCISE  (c)

Learn basic dance steps while having fun, burning calories and getting fit. In this workout, you will learn to move your body in a smooth rhythmic way. This program will help you feel strong, confident and energize. The program includes stretching, cardiovascular training and cool down.  Students are advised to take both classes.

TAE-BO(a)

Tae-Bo is a program that combines the best of a variety of different exercise disciplines to provide an overall workout. Tae-Bo is the combination of self-awareness and control of martial arts, the focus and strength of boxing, and the grace and rhythm of dance.

DAYAN QIGONG (a)

Students will learn one of the most popular forms of Qigong used in China today. DaYan Qigong means the Wild Goose Form. This practice consists of 64 movements that flow from one movement into the next. In addition to learning the form, the students will learn a warm up set of exercises to increase flexibility and balance. Students are encouraged to “move at their own pace.” Adaptations can be easily made for people with motor impairments or mobility concerns. Part A includes moves 1-32 of DaYan Qigong. Part B includes moves 33-64. Students who are taking Part B must have taken Part A to participate. Students that are taking Part B must have taken Part A to participate.

The gentle art of meditation through movement is taught through a series of easy-to-learn movement patterns, which focus on self-awareness and flow. T’ai Chi is healthful for all ages and physical conditions.

Yoga I (c)

(Kundalini) Techniques of breathing, stretching, strengthening and relaxation combine to reduce accumulated tension, improve circulation and increase overall stamina and flexibility. This vigorous yet relaxing form of yoga will give you an immediate experience of increased vitality and mental clarity. This class is designed for both beginners and more experienced yoga students. You can progress at your own rate and work comfortably at your own level of fitness. You may enroll in both classes if you desire. Please bring a blanket or mat.

This class builds on the techniques in Yoga I. It explores the techniques of Kundalini Yoga in greater depth, including kriyas, meditations and the use of mantra (sound). Students with previous yoga experience are encouraged to participate.

HATHA YOGA (c)

Enrollment is limited to 25 students. Develop balance and concentration while you discover peace, no matter what you are going through. Yoga is capable of changing your world from the inside out with simple postures, twists, meditations and breathing techniques. There is no substitute for the joy experienced during yoga movement. Physical freedom awaits you within Hatha Yoga. This class will show you how to gently unfold to become more flexible in body and mind. Come play and be happy. “The heart is wiser than the mind.”

STRONG WOMEN STrong bones (a

This class is specifically designed to strengthen muscles around the joints most likely to suffer in the aging process. People at risk of Osteoporosis are invited to participate as the research behind this program has proven results. Increasing reps and sets gradually, and increasing weights as appropriate, will build not only strength but confidence and posture. Community develops as students come to know one another and see growth and change happening over time. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a mat and your weights (if you are currently using them), plenty of drinking water and the willingness to succeed. The recommended reading material is Strong Women Strong Bones, by Dr. Miriam Nelson of the Gerald J. and Dorothy Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.

THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: AN INTRODUCTION (c)

Enrollment is limited to 10 students. Whether you're the computer, driving, on the phone, exercising, playing music, or gardening, unconscious habits of tension and misuse can cause back and neck pain, repetitive stress injuries, and other problems. The Alexander Technique is an educational method for eliminating these harmful habits through increasing your awareness and improving the way that you perform your daily activities. In this class you will be introduced to the basics of the Alexander Technique and get an individual "mini-lesson" using some everyday movements. If you've been curious about the Alexander Technique, this is an enjoyable way to find out what it's all about!
